The Queen's Speech - GTA Press Release. 20th November 2009

The GTA, as a Council member of the BSSC, has very recently taken part in discussions with Home Office Minister Alan Campbell on this subject and we await detailed guidance from the Home Office as to the precise wording of the Bill.

We will keep Members informed of the precise wording of any proposed legislation and expect that this will require owners to take reasonable precautions to avoid airguns falling into the hands of unauthorised persons (young people below the age of 18).

The GTA are firmly of the opinion that the vast majority of airgun owning members of the public already act responsibly in regard to the safe storage of airguns.

The Queen's Speech on 18th November made reference to the drafting of a Crime & Security Bill which included:

“Preventing tragic accidents involving airguns by ensuring these dangerous weapons are safely stored and out of the reach of children, by introducing a legal requirement to do so”.
