John Dickson & Son is Scotland’s oldest gunmaker and makers of the distinguished Round-Action shotgun that avid hunters from around the world commission us to build. We operate out of the picturesque village of Dunkeld in Perthshire, which is very much the gateway to the highlands of Scotland.


Apprentice Gun Maker Vacancy


We are currently looking for a full-time apprentice Gun Maker to join us in Dunkeld and learn the art of gun making through the lines of new gun builds, gun repair and gun restoration.


Key Responsibilities:

Work under the Workshop Manager to understand the operations, inputs and outputs of the workshop.

Undertake the time and commitment to be taught the art of best gun making and start to contribute to the outputs of the workshop.

Learn the machining operations and assembly process for our new build, repair and restoration work.

Deliver small projects that contribute to bigger deliverables.

Contribute to the operation of the workshop, including its maintenance and tidiness, and liaise with the front shop for managing workshop inventory and materials.


The ideal candidate will:

Have experience in the gun trade and/or an engineering background.

Have an enthusiast approach to the skills and the artform we will teach.

Hold a valid shotgun and/or firearms certificate.

Have a polite manner and professional approach to work.
